First the gods left.
Then the Others came.
When the gods ditched Earth, the displaced mythical creatures from heaven and hell ended up at my doorstep. To keep my business afloat, I’ve been forced to handle the dramas of folklore and fairytale creatures who are way out of their element. To say these succubi, poltergeists, and angels are out of touch with the mortal way of life would be an understatement.
But preparing my new tenants for the real world is just the start of my problems. An ominous monster has been terrorizing the night and the creature’s bloody deeds are exhuming a past best left dead and buried.
I guess sometimes the dead don’t want to stay buried and the past will dig itself out of a cold grave just to kick you in the nuts.
My name is Jean-Luc Matthias and if I want to save my business, protect my legendary tenants, stop the monster and … oh yeah … stop the apocalypse from happening again, then I guess I’d better pull up my big-boy pants and get to work.
GoneGod World is a hilariously dark urban fantasy novel with an imaginative twist. If you like gritty worlds, reimagined mythology, and shadowy mysteries, then you’ll love Ramy Vance’s divinely comedic adventure.

Be sure to read Paradise Lot first, as it sets the stage for the murder mystery that drives this story line. Jean-luc is the usual disillusioned hard-bitten killer-with-a-past, fighting a foe that can even take down angels. But Love Conquers All, so we can all rest assured that even in this quirky AU, the guy trying to be good wins over the villain who's not 100% a villain. The AU is creative, but the characters are one-dimensional and you've met all of them before in the literary universe. I made it all the way through the book because I was intrigued on how the villain was going to be defeated by a mere human, but once that was taken care of, I deleted the story from my Kindle. Not interested in continuing the series.

GoneGod World An Urban Fantasy Thriller Keep Evolving Book 1 edition by R E Vance Ramy Vance Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
"Gone God World" is a modern take on monsters and mythologies that is a must read for any fan of fantasy. The humor and inventiveness of the writing are a breath of fresh air, but there is plenty of emotional richness underlying the surface sparkle.
Jean Luc has lost the love of his life… or has he? Is his situation going to be further complicated by a rather luscious and very sweet gorgon who has her eye on him? And how would that even work when some of her snakes are seriously hostile to Jean Luc?
The main character is a fascinating mix of flaws and strengths, who is highly sympathetic and has the reader cheering for him all the way. His future adventures are bound to be both moving and fun.
Originally I was going to give this story 2 stars but upon seeing any rating lover than 4 I figured someone should offer some contrast.
Now I know for a fact that some people that look at reviews skip the long ones so I'll offer a TLDR
I disliked this book, it grew more and more boring as the episodes progressed. The main character was cheesy, hopeless and talked up. And the fan service was... annoying, if not cringey. And lastly, the character decisions make no sense (SPOILER ALERT!!! Jean Luc's wife loved him so much she find him even from another world...but then let him believe she was dead and only a dream?? Wtf ) I'd go into more detail but I'd be here all day.
If you enjoyed Rick Riordan's Olympians series, and are an adult, then this is definitely for you. Better written with a more compelling storyline than Rick Riordan, I enjoyed the exploration of what would happen if all the gods left.
The main character, Jean-Luc, is likeable but with a dark side to his past. Trying to protect himself from more hurt means he is leaving others vulnerable, something he struggles with throughout the book.
I couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. Thank goodness for instant downloads!
I have been following this series from the beginning and am so glad that the author finally released it as a boxset with episodes 1-4. I was hooked on this series from the start and love the fantasy-urban mythical creatures that devour the story. The series has got great characterization and the drama unfolds in ways you can't predict. If you are looking for something to read this weekend, I highly recommend you grab the box set now because after reading the first episode, you're going to want the rest of them anyway!
I am completely blown away by the world that R.E. Vance has created... it's deep and thorough and consistent, which is hard to do. The premise surprised me... the idea of all gods/deities, from legend or myth or reality, disappearing and leaving behind everything, closing down realms, is not something I've seen done before. I had a hard time putting it down (but was forced to at times to care for my four children! EEK!). The chapters are short and easy to read, full of sprinkled in humor, GREAT character voice and development, a quirky main character thrown into a crazy new kind of existence, with a precious external motivation (which is always partly internal, right?) I'm excited to see what more this writer does with the story and to journey along with the characters as they find themselves and each other. This is the kind of story that makes me want to ask the writer, "How in the world did you come up with this?" I love this kind of creativity, matched with great writing.
Oh, my! R.E. Vance rocks it with his glorious ability to weave a tale and to build characters that never cease to amaze the reader with their compelling, crazy, weird, troublesome, greedy, and somewhat real actions. The author has taken mythological gods such as the Archangel Michael and Medusa, who we thought we knew, and turned them into totally different creatures who are part modern and part ancient. One would think they were ordinary people discussing every-day subjects until the fights break out. Then watch out.
The Gods are gone, leaving characters of legend and myth to co-exist in the town of Paradise. Jean-Luc is an hotelier who made a promise to his deceased wife, to keep the hotel in operation and help others in the small town, in spite of his intense desire to be able to join his decease wife.
It is the author’s relentless humor that keeps me hooked - well that and the intriguing story. As an example of the author’s warped sense of humor, among Jean-Luc’s tenants are a four-hundred-pound, Drambuie-addicted fallen angel, his poltergeist mother-in-law, and a may-be male or may-be female prostitute.
Jean-Luc is the key to a power-hungry creature’s plan to open the void leading to the heavens and becoming the ultimate power over all the worlds.
You will not want to put this book down once you begin reading.
