The Story Girl was a leap back to an innocence and a childhood most of us never lived. There was a time when I thought I was too old for such a book, but there's a scintillating tang to the stories, and the characters were fully three-dimensional. I felt welcome on Prince Edward Island and reveled in the people, their carefully balanced relationships and the beauty all around them as the seasons passed. While childlike, it is not a childish book. The language develops with the characters, lending realism and humor. I'm glad I can return there when life here becomes complicated beyond reason. If you go, you must help with the apple picking, wave to The Awkward Man and decide for yourself if Peg Bowen is a witch. Go!Product details

The Complete Story Girl Series The Story Girl + The Golden Road eBook Lucy Maud Montgomery Reviews
Enjoyable old fashioned writing.
I grew up with these stories, and have revisited them off and on throughout my life. They are timeless. I suggest reading them to your children starting around ages 6-7.
I am just now becoming familiar with Lucy Maud Montgomery's books. I love the stories. This is in a different format than the other books of hers that I have read. In this book, one of the characters is actually telling you the story.
Yet another collection of L.M. Montgomery's wonderful stories! The charm of childhood and friendship is beautifully explored in both "The Story Girl" and "The Golden Road". A must-read for L.M. Montgomery fans.
Wish we had authors of this caliber for children's literature today. Very descriptive. Reminded me of adventures with my cousins back in the 50s - long before the "electronic" age.
Lucy Montgomerys books are full of the charm and mystery that is life. She combines the beauty of Prince Edward island with the charm of being a child. The antics of these vivid characters will stay with you as long as you live. All of her books are delightful and you really get to know her characters, their thoughts, their sorrows, and their loves. This book is funny, endearing, with not too much romance like some books now a days And maybe, just maybe, you might even cry. I highly recommend this for anyone. Go read her other books you will be glad you did.
I hadn't read many Lucy Maud Montgomery stories. I had read Anne of Green Gables several times but, to tell the truth, I hadn't been aware of her other stories. I wasn't sure what I expected when I purchased this series. From what I was able to ascertain from the book description, this was the series that Disney's "Avonlea" TV series was based on. I loved the "Avonlea" series, so I decided to read the book. I can't say I was disappointed, but it wasn't what I expected. On one side it was interesting to experience their adventures and events through the mind of a child. I have to say it took me back many, many years to that mind set - how a child's mind interprets things. But, at the same time, I thought the descriptions of the landscapes too be a little overpowering. There isn't much of a story line, just little tidbits from a child's mind . I did thoroughly enjoy the "Aunt Eliza" visit. The personalities of the characters were very good, although I really wanted to take Felicity to task for her arrogant, self-satisfied actions. All in all, my thoughts of the book are that it has good points (the viewpoint of a child) and bad (too much descriptions of trees and meadows). I probably wouldn't read this book again (I usually read books I like over and over).
